What to Do with the Bone

After the Easter meal on Sunday, I was blessed with a wonderful ham bone. I knew immediately that I would use it to make ham bone soup. The recipe I used is down below. I went ahead and washed and boiled the beans last night but I didn't have time to actually cook the soup until today. As soon as I brought out my crock pot and ingredients the other women in the dorm began to ask what I was cooking. Each time I replied, "ham bone soup", I was met with expressions of bewilderment and doubt. What was this strange thing? One of the most positive women said, "You are always making the most interesting sounding, home-made recipes." Then she gave me a big grin and quickly left the room. After the soup was on to cook, I went in to talk to a friend. I asked her if ham bone soup was weird. She deliberated on how to tell me this without hurting my feelings and then just jumped on in. She said, "Yes, but my grandmother used to make it." LOL

I did notice though that several people asked to taste it though and a few even asked me for my recipe. I guess I am not quite a weird yet.
